Auckland Council
Māngere East, Auckland
July – December 2023
In 2023, Auckland Council contracted Cassidy Construction to build a new toilet and changing room block to replace the outdated existing facilities, which were unsuitable for their intended use and incurring increasing maintenance costs. The internal fit-out consists of new public toilets and two changing rooms, complete with 10 showers, bench seating and gear storage rooms.
Due to poor ground conditions, the new building is supported on 117 timber piles, which were driven to a depth of 12m then cut at ground level and topped with a concrete foundation and slab. The walls are precast concrete panels with vertical pins at the top and a graphic textured element suggestive of the surrounding mature trees. To ensure durability, the roof is constructed from 12mm plate steel and the floors are epoxy coated.
It’s always satisfying to work on projects that make a real difference in the day-to-day lives of New Zealanders, including replacing ageing community amenities with modern, fit-for-purpose facilities that are designed and built to stand the test of time.
