Ngāti Ōtara Multi-Sport Facility

PROJECT FACTS

Auckland Council

Ōtara, Auckland

February 2020 – February 2021

PROJECT CASE STUDY

The Ngāti Ōtara Park Multi-Sport Centre, new home to the Scorpions Rugby League Club, replaces the former sports clubrooms at this popular South Auckland park.

Designed to increase interest in sports and bring the community together, the 600m² Auckland Council facility features a 175m² clubroom with polished concrete floor, as well as a kitchen, first-aid room, changing rooms, toilets and laundry facilities. Wrapping around the building are 475 lineal metres of black oxide external concrete pavement, with in-situ concrete stairs and low walls.

The many cultural elements thoughtfully included in the design made this an interesting project for the Cassidy crew. The Monarc external precast panels were specially honed with reed patterns, and the exterior also features 39 perforated aluminium façade feature panels created with input from a cultural designer and local iwi to depict the silhouette of waka being paddled.

Cassidy Construction self-performed everything from civil works, external siteworks and drainage, foundations and slab preparation to carpentry and painting.
