The Ngāti Ōtara Multisport Facility, new home to the Scorpions League Club, replaces the former sports clubrooms.
The 600m² facility includes a new, 175m² clubroom with polished concrete floor, kitchen, changerooms, toilets and laundry facilities.
As a beacon of the community many cultural elements were thoughtfully included in the design. The external precast panels are Monarc creative panels supplied by Nauhria, which were specially honed with the Monarc machine to achieve ‘reed’ patterns.
The exterior also features 39 perforated aluminium façade feature panels, which were coordinated with a cultural designer and local iwi. Depicted on these panels is a silhouette of waka being paddled.
Wrapping around the facility is 475 lineal metres of black oxide external concrete pavement, with in-situ concrete stairs and low walls
The new facility has been designed to increase interest in sports and bring the community together.
