Futureproofing against climate change was part of the brief when Cassidy Construction was contracted by Auckland Council to deliver a new public amenities block at Freyberg Park sports fields in Browns Bay.
Designed to service local residents and sports teams, the block contains public toilets and storage as well as two changing rooms fitted out with bathroom and shower facilities.
The concrete foundations feature raised internal and external slabs to lift the building height above the historical flood plain level. The walls are all precast panel construction, with outer panels consisting of an architectural rebated finish to provide depth and texture. Structural steel ties the panels together and forms the structure for the roofing.
The success of this project was driven by close collaboration between Cassidy Construction, Auckland Council and various consultants.
