Cassidy Construction was the main contractor for the construction of this 380m2 public amenities block at Auckland Council’s new Ōpaheke Sports Park in Papakura. As well as changing rooms and toilets, the facilities include a tuckshop and space for teams to socialise.
The building is predominantly constructed from architectural precast panels with decorative perforated screens. A unique feature is the roof, which is made from 12mm-thick steel plate with laser-cut feature panels over the entrance. We also constructed a lift pit because future plans for the building involve lifting the centre section of the roof and constructing another level to make space for clubrooms.
As the area did not yet have a reticulated water supply, our drainage works included installing and connecting an underground fibreglass-reinforced plastic holding tank and an automated irrigation system for watering the sports fields. We also installed an underground wastewater tank, pump station and valve chamber and rising mains for both potable water and wastewater, all future-proofed for network tie-in.
