St Luke’s Church

PROJECT CASE STUDY

Catholic Diocese of Auckland

Flat Bush, Auckland

November 2019 - May 2021

The parish of St Luke’s in Flat Bush was the first new Catholic parish to be established in Auckland in 40 years. We were honoured to be chosen as the main contractor for the construction of this modern architectural church.

The site adjoins Sancta Maria College and Sancta Maria Catholic Primary School, so careful consideration and coordination were required to ensure that our work caused minimal disruption to the staff and pupils.

Structural works for the 1200m3 single-level church involved a complex structural steel, 6m-tall in-situ concrete portal frame and patterned pre-cast panels that stretched up to 14m high. Cladding also included Hermpac cedar timber and aluminium composite panelling.

Intricate craftmanship was required to complete the detailed internal finishes and a multitude of linings that complement the digiprint picture glass features.

Other features include a specialised audiovisual system, timber pews for 800 people and a marble altar.

Site works included detailed landscaping, a carpark, a new entrance road and widening of Chapel Road.
