Cassidy Construction was selected as the main contractor for this new greenfield substation early in the design phase of the project, which meant we were able to provide early contractor involvement (ECI) advice and begin procurement of long-lead items while the design and consenting were being finalised.
It was the continuation of a strong relationship with Counties Power, as we were working with the same project team on the Waiuku Substation when the Pōkeno Substation was awarded, and successfully delivered Waiuku for them during the early stages of the Pōkeno project.
This substation is made up of three adjoining buildings constructed from precast concrete panels and structural steel. Panels and steel filled the 3.5m deep basement excavation, eliminating the majority of risks posed by winter groundworks.
