Cassidy Construction was selected as the main contractor for this new greenfields substation early in the design phase of the project, which meant we were able to work with the project team to provide ECI and commence procurement of long-lead items while the design and consenting were being finalised.
It was the continuation of a strong relationship with Counties Power, as we were working with the same project team on the Waiuku Substation during the awarding of this project, and successfully delivered that for them in early August 2019.
This substation is made up of three adjoining buildings constructed from precast concrete panels and structural steel. Panels and steel filled the 3.5m deep basement excavation, eliminating the majority of the risks posed by winter groundworks.
