When planning the year-long building programme for this 800m2 science block, we sequenced our construction methodology to ensure minimal disruption during school terms.
Before beginning work we built a 400m temporary road around the perimeter of the school fields so we could access the site safely and retain separation from school activities.
The specialist science block delivers a gross floor area of 1629m2 over two levels, including 10 laboratories, a classroom, a technician room, a staff area and amenities. The bottom level is structural steel, while the top level is structural timber-framed with exposed 240 x 90mm imported spruce timber trusses.
The building has an atmosphere-controlled actuated system to automatically operate the numerous windows according to carbon dioxide and humidity levels. All laboratories feature specialist Novalab joinery and are serviced by fume cupboards with ducted extraction, water and gas supply, and chemical waste outlets.
