Rosmini College Classroom Block

PROJECT CASE STUDY

Catholic Diocese of Auckland

Takapuna, Auckland

November 2019 - May 2021

Cassidy Construction was main contractor in delivery of this three-level classroom block, each floor of which extends to about 650m2. Housing 12 separate learning spaces, including purpose-designed music and food technology classrooms, the new facility provides capacity for the school to accommodate a roll increase to 1200 students.

What made this project both interesting and challenging is that the primary structure is all in-situ concrete, with the ground floor suspended off the ground and sitting on 30m-long steel driven piles. Cassidy’s self-performing capability came to the fore during the 18-month build, with both the concreting and carpentry trades drawn from our highly experienced in-house team.

Before starting construction, our team built a 200m haul road across a field to safely access the site. Further complexity was added by the fact that the field and the edge of the building site were formerly a landfill site, so we had to manage the additional hazard of methane gas leaching from the ground at our build location.
