Fonterra Brands NZ
Hāwera, Taranaki
May – December 2020
Engaged as the main contractor to build a new refrigerated coolstore at Fonterra’s factory near Hāwera, Cassidy Construction delivered without compromising or disrupting Fonterra’s operating plant.
The coolstore sits on concrete raft foundations and has a steel structure to take the insulated panels. It adjoins the existing cheese distribution centre and the project involved extensive structural connections and new envelope cladding to the existing building.
The coolsite was constructed around and over the existing fire system sprinkler valves and pumphouse without disruption to the system, which serviced the fire suppression water supply to the whole factory.
Our team collaborated with the Fonterra distribution centre team to ensure that our work didn’t disrupt their operations. The site remained active throughout, with delivery trucks constantly moving in and around the construction zone.
To minimise the impact of covid travel restrictions and limit the number of people coming on site from out of the region, we worked with local contractors where appropriate.
