Fonterra Co-Operative Group Limited
Hāwera, Taranaki
May 2020 – December 2020
Engaged as the main contractor to build a new refrigerated coolstore at Fonterra’s factory near Hāwera, Cassidy Construction delivered without compromise or disruption to Fonterra’s operating plant.
The coolstore adjoins the existing cheese distribution centre, with extensive structural connections and new envelope cladding to the existing building. Sitting on concrete raft foundations, the new building has a steel structure to take the insulated panels.
The coolsite was constructed around and over the existing fire system sprinkler valves and pumphouse. This was achieved without disruption to the system, which serviced the fire suppression water supply to the whole factory.
Our team collaborated with the Fonterra distribution centre team to ensure there was no disruption to their operations. The site remained active throughout, with delivery trucks constantly moving in and around the construction zone.
To minimise the impact of covid travel restrictions and limit the number of people coming on site from out of the region, we worked with local contractors where appropriate.
