Here our team added a 1400m2 extension to two faces of an existing kiwifruit packhouse in a prime agricultural zone south of Auckland.
In keeping with the existing buildings on-site, the addition is an all-timber structure, supported by concrete foundations and a concrete slab.
The packhouse extension’s 10m roof span called for some clever engineering, with more than 1.3km of 400mm x 90mm HyJoist purlins required to ensure that the framing was strong enough support the roof.
We undertook the project in the kiwifruit off-season, working to a hard deadline because the client needed it to be ready in time for new equipment to be installed as it arrived on site. The buildings were closed in on schedule, and the equipment safely installed ready for the next packing season.
