Over a three-year programme, upgrades to the plant at Fonterra Takanini were made to meet changes in compliance standards and improve on-site capacity and capability.
Prior to starting, Early Contractor Involvement saw long-term plans and operational requirements being discussed including constructability, methodology, programming and cost budget proposals and a phased approach, designed to minimise disruption.
Works included: Building a new redline change facility including an extension over operational milk bottling area; mezzanine floor with hygiene room and tank; new offices above a packaging area; a redline hygiene rated laboratory and control room; chemical tanker-unload bay; warehouse alterations; trade waste tank foundation; a cooling tower structure and demolition involving asbestos materials.
