The Blind and Low Vision Education Network provides educational facilities tailored to suit the needs of children who are blind, deafblind or have low vision. In the midst of the covid pandemic, Cassidy Construction was contracted to build a swimming pool complex at their Homai Campus School in Manurewa. The building comprises a 25m x 30m structural-steel portal frame with laminated veneer lumber purlins and insulated wall panel cladding. It houses two swimming pools, a fitness room, change rooms and plant rooms for the large mechanical and filtration components.
We were awarded the project in August 2020 and worked with the supplier and installer to ensure the Myrtha swimming pool components arrived from Italy in time to avoid pandemic-related fabrication delays and shipping disruption. Once we had poured the concrete pool floors and installed the stainless-steel pool walls, scupper drains and membrane interior linings, we added specialist features such as handrails, perimeter seating and accessibility aids designed to facilitate safe use of the pools.
Our careful planning ensured that the construction of the complex caused no disruption to the campus and the school remained operational throughout.
