299 Great North Road

PROJECT CASE STUDY

Samson Corporation

Grey Lynn, Auckland

February 2020 - January 2021

In 2020, Cassidy Construction redeveloped a former motorcycle workshop and dealership at 299 Great North Road, Grey Lynn, into four separate architecturally featured retail showroom spaces.

The revitalised building is clad with curtain frameless glass and Alucobond aluminium composite material, with Rockcote plaster applied to the existing blockwork.

The internal linings include a fire-rated mezzanine floor, CLD batten features on the ceilings and polished concrete floors, including in the former workshop.

The roof, floor slabs and masonry block walls of the original structure were retained and reworked, as was much of the structural steel. At the same time, we added extensive metalwork features, including clear-coated raw steel, large window shrouds and an external spiral staircase.

Aligning the new fit-out to the existing structure threw up challenges, but the Cassidy team overcame these using creative problem solving and responsive design changes.
