BP Connect Wānaka

PROJECT CASE STUDY

BP Oil NZ

Wānaka, Otago

February 2020 - August 2020

In keeping with the ski-resort vibe of the Queenstown Lakes region, the bespoke design of the BP Connect in Wānaka is a little different from the many other BP service stations we’ve built around the country. The precast exterior panels are designed to look like weatherboard cladding, and schist stone walls surround the shop and the roadside signage.

The project also included constructing an eight-lane forecourt canopy, a carwash, a jetwash and a shop with a polished concrete floor.

Construction began in late 2019, but was disrupted in early 2020 by New Zealand’s first Level 4 Covid lockdown. Cassidy’s project manager worked closely with government regulations to ensure the team could resume work as soon as the country moved to Level 3.

The delay forced the team to grapple with the harsh conditions of an Otago winter, which threw up challenges near the end of the project when pouring asphalt became restricted to certain conditions. But we pushed through, and managed to have the new service station ready to open according to the client’s schedule.
