This project required us to demolish an existing small building then build a new 100m2 bunded silo base. The silo area required screw piles, a 400mm-thick slab and a 1200mm-high, 200mm-thick in-situ perimeter concrete wall with SikaSwell waterstops. We also fitted out an existing storage shed area as a new single-level 80m2 Xflam plant room.
Unforeseen ground conditions and in-ground services meant that the design developed significantly throughout the build, and as a result we had to make adjustments to piling and services layouts. We worked closely with the client and consultant to agree cost-effective and practical solutions.
As we were operating within a live food-production site, we coordinated access and work areas with Frucor to make sure we didn’t adversely affect their day-to-day operations. Lots of catch-ups and coordination meetings were required, which worked well. Despite accommodating design changes and additional scope along the way, we met our deadlines and the client was very happy.
