We have built many amenity blocks for Auckland Council over the years, but few with a view as spectacular as that of these public toilets and changing rooms on the seafront at Waiake Beach Reserve on Auckland’s North Shore.
The block sits on the edge of the sea wall with a view across the water to Rangitoto. Built on driven timber piles and a concrete slab, its solid blockwork structure has a Rockcote plaster system on the exterior and natural South Island schist details on the corners.
Original stainless-steel wall art commissioned by local school Long Bay College was electropolished and reused, and the internal fit-out included floor and wall tiling throughout.
We completed the entire project to a high standard in only three months, so the facilities could be open to the public in time for the busy summer season.
