This two-stage project involved upsizing the potable water and fire main pipework at Watercare’s Māngere Wastewater Treatment Plant to deal with pipe failures and provide additional capacity across the plant’s network.
Because any damage to underground services would have disrupted the operations of the live plant, we carried out extensive hydro excavation investigations to locate the existing services, then worked with the design team and Watercare to finalise a design that worked around them.
We ordered the polyethylene pipes and connections early to avoid delays, paying particular attention to the custom bends order because our work area was restricted and the custom bends would dictate the alignment.
A small but efficient Cassidy crew self-performed most of the tasks needed, including earthworks, pressure testing and tie-ins, working closely with Watercare’s operations team to get the job done within budget and schedule without disrupting the plant’s daily operations.
