The UNI PAK Reactor project was a large civil works package on a Transpower Site in Pakuranga. The works area was around 6000m2 and our role involved constructing platforms and in-ground works for two new reactor bays so Omexom could install their HV equipment.
We excavated more than 3000m3 of spoil and stockpiled it on-site before completing long runs of ducting, earthing and drainage. Twenty heavy concrete foundations were laid, with hundreds of precisely located hold-down bolts cast into place. Uniquely, 20km of 20mm fibreglass reinforcing bars were used across the two larger reactor foundation pads because magnetic clearance requirements prohibited the use of traditional steel reinforcing.
Despite a wet 2023, the project was completed promptly and to a high quality standard.
