When the transformer at Vector’s Hauraki Zone Substation in Takapuna failed during one of Auckland’s covid lockdowns, Cassidy Construction was called in to conduct robust emergency repairs, including installing a temporary steel support bund, to buy time while a new enclosure was designed to house a replacement transformer.
We returned to the site in early 2023 to construct the new transformer bay. The concrete foundations and transformer plinth were poured in situ, while the walls are precast concrete, with one elevation removable for future works. The new transformer was skidded into the building before cabling commenced.
The job drew on specialised skills our teams have developed during extensive experience of working with live high-voltage sites. Our meticulous attention to detail from a health and safety perspective ensured that everything ran smoothly and without incident.
