We’re currently underway with a technically complex commission to replace the roof of the B2 Treated Water Tank at Watercare’s Ardmore Water Treatment Plant.
The existing 6073m² roof structure, which is constructed from galvanised steelwork with coloursteel cladding, is showing signs of corrosion after 35 years of operation and was no longer fit for purpose.
Instead of replacing it with the same materials, we’re building the new structure from fibre-reinforced plastic (FRP) connected with stainless-steel brackets, and the roof cladding from aluminium, due to the superior corrosion resistance of these materials.
The FRP structural members have been manufactured in India and free issued by Watercare. Due to the length of the roof sheets, we’ll be rolling them on-site with a machine imported from Australia.
We have set up a compound on site to cut, drill and prepare the structure and we’re self-performing the demolition and rigging using up to three cranes, including a tower crane in the centre of the site.
During the construction process we’ll also clean and inspect the existing tank concrete floor and walls and complete concrete crack repairs where required.
