We’re pumped to have started our next Watercare Assets Upgrades and Renewals (AUR) project, which involves refurbishing one of four anaerobic digester tanks at Rosedale Wastewater Treatment Plant on Auckland’s North Shore.
Our brief is to drain, desludge and clean the tank so we can refurbish and modify its structure and associated equipment, including pipework, control valves, handrails and roofing. We will then complete the control system programming and cold commissioning with the Watercare operations team and Bellcon.
The tanks, which use microorganisms to break down wastewater sludge, are the most hazardous equipment in the treatment plant. We’re managing the risk by making sure all our team working in or near the tank have had extensive confined space and gas detection training. This may be high-risk work, but we have planned well to keep everyone and the plant safe.
